Skincare/Aesthetics

Not everyone views skincare as important. I do. I've been mildly obsessed with my own skincare since I was about 12 years old. It's now time for me to be mildly obsessed with yours--if you'll let me.

The most important part of taking care of your skin is being educated. Don't underestimate the power you have over the health of your complexion. I urge you to embrace the following habits for your skin's health:

  • Consume primarily water and beverages high in antioxidants (and low in sugar!) on a daily basis. Try to avoid overdoing your caffeine consumption throughout the day--it will dehydrate your cells, increasing the appearance of fine lines, in addition to making your skin look lackluster. A soda is a soda is a soda--no matter whether or not it's diet.
  • Wash & moisturize your face twice a day: once in the morning, once in the evening. No excuses! (And, yes, the shower DOES count, provided you're using a cleanser designed for your face.) I, personally, will often do this mid-late afternoon, also, in order to freshen up and revitalize myself after a long day of work or before going out for the evening.
  • If you can't take a shower right after exercising or sweating, at least rinse your face. Sweat and sebum build up on the skin, which may clog pores. Rinsing is better than nothing.
  • Wear an SPF of 15-30 daily. If your moisturizer does not include an SPF, a sunscreen should be applied with or after your moisturizer, but before your makeup.
  • Quit smoking. Cigarette smoke and nicotine will dull your complexion, along with the other unhealthy drawbacks.
